Heritage Rice Mill Relocation

CKHO Architect
2026
PAM Award - Silver
Special Category
The project addresses the challenge of preserving old rice-milling heritage by relocating significant machinery and industrial components from a former mill into an existing warehouse environment. Originally used for paddy drying and storage, the warehouse provides a large-span industrial shell capable of accommodating the scale of the salvaged milling structures. Through a “fit-and-fill” strategy, architecture is shaped around the retained machinery and timber structures rather than imposing a new spatial order. This approach allows the industrial logic of rice processing to remain legible while transforming the warehouse into an interpretive commercial environment, where heritage artefacts are reintroduced within a contemporary architectural setting.
