The Exchange TRX in the Central Business District of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the latest lifestyle and retail destination for Lendlease that DP has delivered in collaboration with precinct and concept architect, Grimshaw. Comprising DP Architects Singapore, DP Architects Malaysia, DP Design, DP Façade, and DP’s multidisciplinary team was the delivery architect, interior design and theming consultant, façade designer and engineer. Envision as a destination of many destinations, the architectural programming and interior theming creatively synergizes over 400 lifestyle, dining, concept stores, and exclusive retail as well as spaces for entertainment, arts, culture, sports and leisure.
The design of The Exchange TRX reimagines Kuala Lumpur’s international financial hub by integrating the natural limestone of the site with contemporary architecture. Inspired by the site’s geological features, the concept envisions a lush park above a sunken mall, with the exposed excavated stone creating an escarpment that harmonizes with the landscape. The vast scale of the development is approached as an interconnected system of distinct zones, each offering a unique shopping experience, reflected in the carefully crafted façades. The primary material, Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), mimics the stone’s horizontal strata, while glazed elements and lighting add depth. Vertical veins of metal fins define the entrances, and strategic metal framing around the stone walls adds a dynamic visual rhythm. The façade design celebrates local geology, establishing a strong connection between nature and urban life, and making The Exchange TRX a premier experiential lifestyle destination in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
