Merdeka 118, standing at 678.9 meters, is Malaysia’s second-tallest building, symbolizing the country’s ambition and innovation. Located in Kuala Lumpur, it anchors a 6.35-hectare urban renewal project near Stadium Merdeka, a historic site. The 3.1 million square foot tower includes 1.7 million square feet of office space, a Park Hyatt Hotel, and Southeast Asia’s highest Observation Deck.

Designed by Australian Architect FK, its crystalline, faceted form reflects Malaysian culture and heritage. The building’s sustainability is marked by LEED Platinum certification and the broader precinct, including Merdeka Mall, residential towers, and public spaces, integrates seamlessly with Kuala Lumpur’s transport system.

Diamond in plan, Merdeka 118 is positioned on axis with Stadium Negara to the east and a new four-acre linear water park that anchors the surrounding precinct. This car-free recreational landscape fosters vibrant urban life, encouraging community interaction among people of all ages and backgrounds, while establishing a strong visual dialogue with the iconic Petronas Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower.

The tower’s crystalline form is articulated through a refined interplay of differentiated glazing and illumination, expressing its structural pathways by day and night. Its sculptural composition of triangular faceted glass planes draws inspiration from traditional Malaysian art and craft, symbolising the nation’s rich cultural and ethnic diversity.

This design language extends seamlessly to the podium and dual lobby interiors. Dramatically illuminated by skylights, the voluminous lobbies evoke spaces carved from solid travertine. The northern lower lobby connects via escalators to the grand southern lobby, defined by its soaring 35-storey atrium.
